All radioactive material, including vials, samples, waste and devices containing radioactive material, must be marked as radioactive and have the isotope(s) designated. Radiation work areas within a lab should also be marked as such. This can be accomplished, for example, by using radiation tape or radioactive waste tags.
Radioactive material laboratories must be posted with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Notice to Employees, the Iowa State University Radiation Safety posting, and a current radiation door tag, which lists the principal investigator's contact information and authorized isotopes for the lab. If any of the three postings are missing or out of date, please contact EH&S at (515) 294-5359.
