In June 2023, EH&S re-engaged with campus partners on the topic of placing naloxone, also known by the common brand Narcan®, in AED cabinets. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services provided funding for its statewide initiative to make naloxone available as an over-the-counter item for responding to opioid overdoses and made a large quantity of units available to the university at no cost. EH&S stocked naloxone in every AED cabinet by the end of December 2023.
